Title Nod 1 and Nod 2 regulation of inflammation in the Salmonella colitis model

The pattern recognition molecules Nod1 and Nod2 play important roles in intestinal homeostasis, however, how these proteins impact on the development of inflammation during bacterial colitis has not been examined. In the streptomycin-treated mouse model of Salmonella colitis, we found that mice deficient for both Nod1 and Nod2 had attenuated inflammatory pathology, reduced levels of inflammator...

NodD1 and NodD2 Are Not Required for the Symbiotic Interaction of Bradyrhizobium ORS285 with Nod-Factor-Independent Aeschynomene Legumes

Photosynthetic Bradyrhizobium strain ORS285 forms nitrogen-fixing nodules on the roots and stems of tropical aquatic legumes of the Aeschynomene genus. Depending on the Aeschynomene species, this symbiotic interaction does or does not rely on the synthesis of Nod-factors (NFs). However, whether during the interaction of Bradyrhizobium ORS285 with NF-independent Aeschynomene species the nod gene...

Update on Comparative Genomics of Legumes Bridging Model and Crop Legumes through Comparative Genomics

The Fabaceae, or legumes, constitute the third largest family of flowering plants, comprising more than 650 genera and 18,000 species (Polhill and Raven, 1981). Economically, legumes represent the second most important family of crop plants after Poaceae (grass family), accounting for approximately 27% of the world’s crop production (Graham and Vance, 2003). On a worldwide basis, legumes contri...

Update on Genome Sequencing and Resources in Model Legumes Genome Sequencing and Genome Resources in Model Legumes

Since the completion of the sequencing of the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) genome in 2000, it has become clear that information about the genome of a particular plant species can have dramatic benefits in promoting plant molecular genetics in general. To create a similar situation in legumes, two species with small genomes, Lotus japonicus (Japanese trefoil) and Medicago truncatula (barre...

Complete Genome Sequence of Bradyrhizobium sp. ORS285, a Photosynthetic Strain Able To Establish Nod Factor-Dependent or Nod Factor-Independent Symbiosis with Aeschynomene Legumes

Here, we report the complete genome sequence of Bradyrhizobium sp. strain ORS285, which is able to nodulate Aeschynomene legumes using two distinct strategies that differ in the requirement of Nod factors. The genome sequence information of this strain will help understanding of the different mechanisms of interaction of rhizobia with legumes.
